At a panel session on 20 September, 2023, titled: “The Legacy of Oppenheimer: Navigating the Ethical Frontiers of Emerging Technologies,” Charles Oppenheimer, Robert Oppenheimer’s grandson, engaged in his first-ever interaction with the World Academy of Art & Science (WAAS) — an organization co-founded by his illustrious grandfather. This poignant union delivered profound reflections on the interplay between innovation and ethics, especially relevant in today’s rapidly advancing tech landscape.
Charles, with his unique familial insights, and Garry Jacobs, President of WAAS, explored the parallels between past and present technological dilemmas, emphasizing the need for judicious progress. They were joined by HS4A Executive Director, Walt Stinson, and moderator Grant Schreiber, Global Campaign manager for HS4A. The session sought to bridge historical legacies with contemporary challenges, fostering a dialogue centered on ethical technological evolution for the betterment of humanity.
