A Conversation With Charles Oppenheimer
Human Security and Leadership for Global Transformational Change
Every year, on 7 September, the world celebrates the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies. The day aims to raise awareness and facilitate actions to improve air quality. Join youth leaders from Plant-for-the-Planet, as they explain the importance of empowering young people worldwide in combating the climate crisis and restoring ecosystems. Plant-for-the-Planet has already trained 95,898 children, and youth at 1,752 academies in 75 countries, where they teach each other about the climate crisis.

This year’s theme of “Together for Clean Air” focuses on the need for stronger partnerships, increased investment, and shared responsibility to overcome air pollution. Given the transboundary nature of air pollution, all stakeholders have a responsibility to protect the earth’s atmosphere and ensure healthy air for everyone.

Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that air pollution is responsible for around seven million premature deaths each year through diseases such as lung cancer, acute respiratory infections and heart disease, and that 9 out of 10 people breathe air containing high levels of pollutants. In addition, air pollution disproportionately affects women, children and older persons.
Why You Should Plant for the Planet
Beyond Chris Nolan's gripping portrayal of Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, lies a deeper narrative.

Join Garry Jacobs, President and CEO of the World Academy of Art and Science, an organization co-founded by Oppenheimer, Einstein and other notable scientists and thinkers whose creations weren't just scientific feats; they were profound reminders of the need for human security.

Today, as AI poses new ethical challenges, Garry Jacobs invites us to carry forward the founders' vision by joining the "Human Security For All" campaign, co-launched by the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security and the World Academy of Art and Science.
